On Monday 30th June and Wednesday 1st July, Year 9 students at Garstang Community Academy had the exciting opportunity to take part in engaging workshops delivered by Deborah Woods from Flotation Energy.

Deborah visited the school to deliver sessions focused on renewable energy, with a particular emphasis on offshore wind turbines located just off the coast near Morecambe. Pupils explored the science and engineering behind wind power and how this technology is helping the UK transition towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

As part of the sessions, pupils had the chance to make and test their own model windmills, helping them to understand how wind energy can be harnessed through practical, hands-on learning.

Students also learned about the wide range of careers in the renewable energy sector. Deborah spoke about the increasing demand for professionals in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), and encouraged pupils to consider how they could contribute to shaping the future of energy.

The visit provided students with a valuable insight into green energy and left many feeling inspired about the possibilities within this growing industry.

We would like to thank Deborah Woods and Flotation Energy for delivering such an informative and inspiring experience for our students.
