Our Year 9 and 10 students recently embarked on an insightful career visit to HSBC in Preston, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the diverse opportunities within the banking and finance sector.

The visit commenced with a crucial building induction and overview of safety protocols, providing the students with an understanding of the professional environment within a large financial institution. A highlight of the visit was a fascinating tour of the HSBC building, which showcased the wide array of careers that underpin the banks operations. From the intricacies of mortgages and wealth management to the ever-important field of cyber security and the customer-facing role of a cashier, the students witnessed the multifaceted nature of the industry first-hand. In an unforgettable moment, they were even granted a behind-the-scenes look, including a visit to the bank's safe!

Following the tour, the students had the valuable opportunity to engage directly with HSBC staff members in a conference room setting. This session provided a platform to learn about the specific roles of the employees and to gain insights into the various career pathways available within HSBC. These pathways included retail and commercial banking, the complexities of global operations, and the rapidly evolving landscape of digital careers within finance.

To further personalise the experience, the students participated in a career match questionnaire.  This engaging activity allowed them to explore potential career matches within the banking and finance sector based on their own interests and responses, making the possibilities feel more tangible and relevant.  The visit to HSBC proved to be a truly inspiring experience for our students, opening their
eyes to the vast and varied career opportunities that exist within the world of banking and finance. It provided a crucial link between their studies and the potential future pathways available to them. We extend our sincere gratitude to HSBC for their generosity in hosting our students and for providing such an enriching and informative visit.
