Students in year 9 and 10 who have shown an interest in pursuing a future in law enjoyed an inspiring and informative careers visit to Forbes Solicitors this week. The trip offered students a valuable opportunity to explore the wide range of roles within the legal sector, the pathways available, and the skills needed to succeed.
During the visit, students toured the firm’s offices, observing professionals at work and gaining a real-world perspective on what a career in law looks like day to day. This hands-on experience helped them connect their classroom learning to real-life practice, making the world of law feel more tangible and accessible.
A highlight of the visit was a talk from a trainee solicitor, who generously shared her personal journey from GCSE choices through to A Levels, university, and her current training. Her honest reflections gave pupils a clearer understanding of the different routes into the profession and the commitment required to progress.
Students commented that the experience helped them understand legal roles much more clearly. For some, it strengthened their ambition to pursue a career in law; for others, it provided a realistic insight that helped them reflect on whether the sector is right for them. Both outcomes are equally valuable, as Garstang Community Academy is committed to helping students make informed decisions about their futures.
The visit also aligned perfectly with National Apprenticeship Week, highlighting the growing number of apprenticeship pathways now available within the legal sector. Pupils learned that careers in law are no longer limited to traditional university routes, with solicitor apprenticeships and legal support roles offering alternative ways to enter the profession.
Garstang Community Academy would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Forbes Solicitors for their time, hospitality, and willingness to share their expertise. Their support helped create a meaningful and memorable experience for our students.
