This week our Year 10 Physics pupils took part in an engaging and practical electronics workshop delivered by specialist tutors from Blackpool Sixth. The session offered pupils a valuable insight into how Physics connects to real-world applications and future study pathways.

The visiting tutors introduced pupils to the fundamentals of electronic circuits and logic gates, guiding them through activities that brought classroom learning to life. Using breadboards, components, and a range of NOT, AND, and OR switches, pupils were able to build and test their own circuits, developing both confidence and curiosity as they worked.

Mrs Storey the Physics teacher highlighted the impact of the workshop: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to see how the physics they learn in the classroom connects to real-world electronics. The session offered a clear insight into where Physics-related courses can lead, and the hands-on circuit building with logic gates really brought the subject to life. The pupils were fully engaged from start to finish.”

Pupil Voice

The enthusiasm from pupils was clear, with many expressing how much they enjoyed the hands-on experience:

  • Penley: “I thought it was very fun and I learnt more about my options in the future. I really liked using the logic gates.”
  • Ellie: “I enjoyed using the breadboard to create different circuits.”
  • Theo: “I think the activity was very educational and quite convincing to do something with electricity in future.”

The session not only strengthened pupils’ understanding of electronic systems but also opened their eyes to the exciting opportunities available in Physics and engineering beyond GCSE.
